When Basecamp asked me to hop on board to create all new visuals for their 2017 tour, I was bit nervous about how to transform and create a whole new live experience that would be different from the last.  I came up with an idea of layering multiple pieces of fabric to create a 3D look using just a projector.  I tested it out in a small studio and thought it looked pretty awesome.  This is what led to the transparent fabric being wrapped around the box.

I was inspired by the work of Dan Flavin and his use of fluorescent tubes and light "breathing" in larger spaces.  I knew I wanted to create a light fixture that resembled a fluorescent tube, so after many trips to Home Depot, and several test attempts.  I discovered a way to frost these plastic fluorescent tube guards and install LED tape inside.  The result is what we decided to call Box 1.0, a mixture of projection and LED programmed with Ableton and DMXIS.
